About Paula - My Journey
For over 29 years I have enjoyed helping people as a licensed psychotherapist. Prior to coming to Palo Alto, California in 1989 I lived and worked in Chicago, Illinois. My work experiences are varied and include a variety of settings. In addition to years of private practice, I was part of a team on an in-patient psychiatric unit in a hospital and have consulted to many large Silicon Valley companies for stress management, job lay-offs and anger prevention. Publishing several books has allowed me to speak to a diverse group of people. Currently, my practice is located in Palo Alto, California and I have an office in Sedona, Arizona.
As a result of many years of experience, my belief is that the holistic model of therapy -- involving the mind, body and spirit creates lasting change. When working with clients I custom tailor each situation to best help them reach their goals. It always fascinates me that over time clients begin to trust their inner strengths and succeed to make positive changes.
In recent years brain research has demonstrated new ways in mental health treatment to help people change negative thinking, painful feelings and responses to events that cause emotional pain and suffering.
M I N D FULNESS -- Stop Needless Suffering
Mindfulness - Being able to observe events and old familiar automatic reactions in your mind in a nonjudgemental way gives you the power to choose to not react as in the past. Instead, you can choose to change your thoughts, feelings and behaviors. The good news is when this happens, much suffering and pain is eliminated and you are able to remain calm. Anxiety, self-criticism, depression, addictions and shame are replaced with happiness, self-assurance, feeling more alive, healthier relationships and overall success.
Besides offering individual counseling for individuals, couples and families, I have special training in group therapy. One of my favorite ways to help clients is by offering groups and workshops.
